On December 2, 2024, the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources and Rhode Island Renewable Energy Fund announced the launch of Phase 1 of the Resilient Microgrids for Critical Services Program. The Program is designed to catalyze the development of microgrids throughout Rhode Island municipalities, school districts, and fire districts to provide increased energy resilience during grid outages caused by severe weather and other events. In addition, the Program looks to help the state reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable the integration of additional renewable energy sources. Phase 1 focuses on microgrid feasibility studies with Phase 2 to support several of those projects through the construction phase. Applications to Phase 1 are being accepted on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted. For more information on the program click here.
