On March 6, 2019, NASEO released the 2019 U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER) in partnership with the Energy Futures Initiative and BW Research Partnership.
The launch included remarks from David Terry, NASEO Executive Director and the Honorable Ernest Moniz, EFI President and CEO and former U.S. Secretary of Energy. It also featured a panel of experts, including NASEO Board Vice Chair Dr. Laura Nelson, Governor Herbert’s Energy Advisor and Executive Director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Energy Development, discussing the “21st Century Energy Workforce: An Emerging Crisis or Economic Opportunity?”
Based on a comprehensive analysis of employer data collected in the fourth quarter of 2018, the 2019 USEER finds that the Traditional Energy and Energy Efficiency sectors in 2018 employed approximately 6.7 million Americans out of a workforce of approximately 147 million. Employment in these sectors increased in 2018 by 2.3% from the previous year, adding 151,700 net new jobs, nearly 7% of all new jobs nationwide.
