Pursuant to the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act, the U.S. Department of Energy released Barriers to Industrial Energy Efficiency. The report and its accompanying study identify major barriers to increasing the uptake of more energy efficient industrial technologies and practices, including for end-use energy efficiency, demand response, and combined heat and power (CHP). The report discusses opportunities and examples for overcoming such barriers. Further, as requested by the Congress, the report touches on energy savings available from increased use of recycled materials in energy-intensive manufacturing as well potential economic benefits that may accrue to a Federal energy efficiency matching grant program.
