The signatory states of the Regional Electric Vehicle Plan for the West Memorandum of Understanding (REV West MOU) released an Electric Vehicle Policy Baseline for the Intermountain States last week at their first in-person meeting in Denver, Colorado. The analysis, authored by NASEO and supported by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy, with funds from the U.S. State Energy Program, is designed to help the REV West states take the first step toward achieving the goals outlined in the MOU by gathering baseline data and developing an inventory of policies across the region.
The Baseline presents data on charging station availability in the intermountain west, highlights policy and program trends in the region, and presents individual state profiles detailing state-level policies and spending priorities under the Volkswagen Settlement’s Environmental Mitigation Trust. The inventory will serve as the basis from which states can create best practices, coordinate infrastructure investment, develop voluntary standards, identify opportunities to incorporate infrastructure into planning and development processes, and measure progress.
While in Denver, REV West participants met to discuss barriers and opportunities for coordinated EV infrastructure investment in the region. States offered insights from their individual EV infrastructure programs and shared plans for investment under the Volkswagen Settlement, identified mapping and data needs for the region, and discussed next steps for creating voluntary minimum standards for DC fast chargers – building off of the recently released REV West Voluntary Minimum Standards RFI.
