Alabama State Agencies Cut Energy Costs by $3.9 Million in 2012

A December 2011 Executive Order issued by Governor Robert Bentley required the State of Alabama to reduce its energy consumption by 30% compared to 2005 levels. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) analyzed energy data, discovering a near 10% reduction in energy usage in 2012, totaling $3.9 million in energy cost savings. The state Department of Corrections, funded through federal State Energy Program resources and supported by ADECA, reported the largest reduction in energy usage at 16%.
