President Obama released his FY 2014 budget request today, Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Following the announcement, U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman detailed the President's $28.4 billion request for DOE.
“The United States faces one of the greatest challenges ahead, the opportunity to lead the global clean energy race. We must continue to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world to meet this challenge,” said Deputy Secretary Poneman. “This budget reflects strong commitments to fiscal responsibility and shared sacrifice, while embracing the President’s all-of-the-above energy strategy which expands both oil and gas production and investments in new clean energy technologies, while advancing our national security.” Continuing the President’s “all-of-the-above” strategy on energy, the FY’14 budget encourages investment in clean energy research and development, promotes the safe production of natural gas, initiates a Race-to-the-Top challenge to cut energy waste and modernize the grid, creates an Energy Security Trust to fund research to reduce oil dependence, and makes permanent the tax credit for renewable energy production.

In comparison, the President’s SEP request in FY’13 was $49 million. The WAP FY’13 request was $135.7 million.

The Administration proposed a budget of $8.153 billion for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This request is $296 million below the EPA’s budget for FY’12.
