President Signs Energy Bills Into Law

President Obama signed two energy bills into law recently. He signed the Reliable Home Heating Act, S. 2086, into law on June 30, 2014, which was introduced by Senator John Thune (R-SD). The bill allows a state’s governor who has declared a state of emergency caused by a shortage of residential heating fuel to extend the state of emergency for up to two additional 30-day periods and allow commercial motor carriers and drivers that are providing emergency relief to continue to be exempted from certain federal safety regulations. Earlier in the month, on June 10, 2014, President Obama also signed the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) of 2014, H.R. 3080. The legislation authorizes the construction of 34 Army Corp of Engineers water resource projects ranging from floor risk management, to environmental restoration.
