House and Senate Urge President’s Support for SEP and WAP Funding in FY’15

In February, 80 House and Senate members encouraged the President’s support for the U.S. State Energy Program and Weatherization Assistance Program in his Fiscal Year 2015 budget proposal.  Specifically they urged robust funding for SEP and a restoration of WAP to pre-Recovery Act levels.

Thirty-five Senators signed on to the letter, highlighting the states’ ability to leverage the SEP funds with non-Federal monies at $11 to the Federal dollar and WAP’s capacity to provide as much as $450 in annual household energy savings.  Forty-five signatories in the House called funding for SEP and WAP a sound investment that should be a priority.

Both letters described SEP and WAP as two well-established, cost-effective programs that support jobs, contribute to the nation’s economic recovery, and help meet important goals like improving energy efficiency and lowering energy costs.

The President’s budget proposal is expected on March 4.
